Yatango is a maverick consumer technology company that empowers consumers to get a better deal on lifestyle services via an integrated cloud based social platform. They empower their members with greater transparency, control, management, relevance and social rewards. Based in Sydney Australia and lead by serial entreprenuer Andy Taylor Yatango are planning global expansion far beyond their initial telco offering.
The Business Challenge
As part of their global expansion strategy Yatango were keen to invest in new markets where they could launch their telco offering. The UK presented a significant opportunity being dominated by the major mobile networks with relatively inflexible offerings. However the UK is a more developed and far more competitive market than Australia.
Yatango engaged Graystone Strategy as strategic advisers working closely with the Yatango senior leadership team to review the potential of a UK strategy and to work with them to assess the opportunity and viability of a UK offering.
Graystone supported Yatango with two of our most experienced and senior Directors on this project. The scope was wide and covered the following:
- Detailed market analysis and reports on the overall competiveness in the UK market
- Translating the Yatango proposition to the UK market and sizing the overall opportunity and major cost and margin drivers
- Developing a joint business case for the UK market, advising on assumptions around cost to acquire, customer usage, distribution costs etc.
- Brokering introductions to the wholesale teams in the major UK mobile network operators and advising Yatango on their commercial strategy and viability of the wholesale offers on the table
Yatango have a good understanding of the UK market and the commercial and consumer conditions under which a market entry will be effective. This has allowed Yatango to prioritise their business plans and build their strategy for expansion and floatation.
Andy Taylor CEO at Yatango commented “ Tim and James at Graystone Strategy gave us an enormous amount of support when we were reviewing the UK market. In a relatively short space of time they were able to help us build a business case and support us throughout our discussions with UK operators. Their experience in this area is undeniable and they gave us tremendous support in deciding what our overall strategy for the UK market should be.”
